CaregiverKids In Action
Our CaregiverKids program is gearing up for an outstanding year. Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey’s CaregiverKids will be working with local Nursing homes and Assisted living facilities in Ocean County to provide programs geared to bring more of our young people in contact with our elderly. We have conducted Aging Sensitivity Training at several schools in the area. Saint Peter’s Roman Catholic Elementary School in Point Pleasant, Toms River High School North’s National Honor Society (NHS), Lakewood High School’s Pupils Assisted Learning Students (PALS) and Inter-Act Club, Toms River High School South Seniors, and Brick Memorial High School are schools that have already received training.
What has been amazing is the excitement and willingness of these students to get involved. A number of them have said they now have a better understanding of their grandparents and other elderly persons they come in contact with. With the older generation sharing their life experience – when they were young – and now – has given them an opportunity to bridge the generational.
Interviewing, “Date Night” – companion to seniors for dinner and movies, help with learning about computers, interview seniors for oral histories, Senior Prom, friendly visits, garden clubs, and cooking clubs are just a few of the many events planned for this great program.
