3rd Annual Ride for Alzheimer's

All motorcycle enthusiasts and riders are invited to ‘strap on your chaps and start ‘er up’ and join the Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey (CVCJ) 3rd Annual Ride for Alzheimer’s to benefit the Alzheimer Respite Care Program (ARCP) of CVCJ on Saturday, September 24th, and sponsored by the Motorcycle Ministry of the Knights of Columbus.

Registration begins at 9:30 and “Kickstands up” at 11 a.m. at Epiphany Roman Catholic church, 615 Thiele Road in Brick.   The ride will wind its way through 60 miles of the most scenic sections of southern Monmouth and  northern Ocean counties ending at Knights of Columbus # 6201, 401 Bartley Road, Jackson.  Donation of $20 per rider and $15 per passenger requested.  You can also donate on-line at  www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/jim-stoever/2011  For more information about the ride, call Jim Stoever at 732-920-7633 or email info@caregivervolunteers.org

The annual event was initiated by Brick residents Jim Stoever and his wife Marlene, in memory of Jim’s mother Lorraine Stoever, who died of the disease in 2009. The Stoever’s commitment to supporting the ARCP program in Ocean County has contributed to its success.  Funds raised through the Ride directly support the Toms River based ARCP providing respite for family members caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia disorders.  1 in every 10 persons over the age of 65 and nearly half of those over 85 will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

ARCP program is part of the CVCJ network of services for seniors and their families in Ocean County. They recruit, train and match volunteers with individuals and families to provide relief in form of socialization, education, and emotional support, giving families the break they need. CVCJ is a non-profit interfaith agency whose mission is to assist the frail and homebound elderly with everyday tasks enabling them to remain independent in their own homes. All services provided are free.  Over 1000 volunteers assist more than 2000 senior citizens each month with transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, reassuring telephone calls, friendly/pet visits.
