2009 Humanitarian of the Year

James Stoever of Brick Township, has been named the “Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program (ACRP) Humanitarian of the Year” by Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey (CVCJ).  The honor will be given at the ACRP Annual Luncheon on December 9, 2009 at the Leisure Chateau Care Center, Lakewood, who is hosting the event. 

 Mr. Stoever, a member and Past Grand Knight of Epiphany Knights of Columbus Council #1860, is being recognized for initiating and chairing the First Motorcycle Run and Walkathon Fundraiser to benefit the ACRP Program in 2009.  The event raised more than $3,000 for the Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program, and was coordinated with the Knights of Columbus Motorcycle Ministry.  Also being honored at the luncheon, is his wife, Marlene Stoever, an active Caregiver Volunteer and co-chair for the Alzheimer Motorcycle Run and Walkathon.   

The ACRP Award was created in 2003 to recognize individuals for their devotion and dedication to the elderly residents of Ocean County, especially those with Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementia.  Previous winners of the award include: D. Jane Maloney, Director of Ocean County Office of Senior Services; Captain Rick Casagrand, Berkeley Township Police Department; Sergeant Cynthia Boyd, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office; Robert C. Novy, Esq., Novy & Associates, Manchester; Ashok K. Patel, M.D., Medical Director, Biobehavioral Health, Toms River; and Isabella Basile, owner of Sola Bella Restaurant, Jackson.

CVCJ is a non-profit interfaith agency whose mission is to assist the frail and homebound elderly with everyday tasks enabling them to remain independent in their own homes. All services provided are free.  Over 1000 volunteers assist more than 2000 senior citizens each month with transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, relief for Alzheimer’s disease caregivers, reassuring telephone calls and friendly visits.
